Breaking into journalism today is harder than ever. Yet the need for real reporting and accurate evidence-based journalism has never been greater. In remembrance of the life and career of Rupert Cornwell, award-winning foreign correspondent of the last 40 years, The Rupert Cornwell Trust has been set up to provide financial assistance to support actual or aspiring young foreign correspondents for short periods of foreign travel and reporting in the field. In conjunction with the Independent newspaper, each year the Trust will grant one bursary to fund a suitable journalistic project. Everyone has to start somewhere.
